The NFT craze is at a all time high and people from all over the world have an opinion. Some say that it is a faze that will eventually die out like a lot of things do and, on the other side of the spectrum, people say that is the future of media. Either way NFTs are huge having with millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrency being traded on a daily basis. Where does Koala Korner fit into this growing market?

What is Koala Korner?

Koala Korner is a collection of 8888 randomly generated and unique Koalas. Common amongst NFT release, the most obvious use of one of these 8888 Koalas is the PFP usage. Being able to have a Koala and show off it’s unique properties and rarity to your friends through social media is something Dominick, the artist responsible, strived for.

What makes Koala Korner art special ?

Dominick has chosen to use a 8k resolution on all properties and has took his time “pixel by pixel” to get these Koalas to look crisp. The reason for this choice is to have a multitude of uses for these Koalas, from simple things such as merchandise to having huge posters and billboards with Koalas displayed. Each Koala owner has the right to request a original copy of their Koala displaying it in that full 8k resolution.

Why Koalas?

The recent events of Australia’s bushfires, as well as deforestation and drought, has hurt the already struggling koala population. Wild koala populations in eastern Australia has been cut in half since 2001. Many videos have circulated of koalas, unfortunately, catching on fire. Approximately, 98% of a koala’s life is spent in a tree. The only time they leave their tree is in search of a mate or a more generous food supply. The number one cause for the shrinking koala population is due to deforestation. Microbiologist Peter Timms from the University of the Sunshine Coast has been quoted saying “Habitat Loss is the number one threat. If they haven’t got a tree, nothing else matters.”

One of the goals Koala Korner has is to help the situations that cause Australia’s koala populations to struggle. A non-profit that aligns with Koala Korner’s goals is the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF). Their goal is to map a wild koala habitats and the get their Koala Protection Act enacted to ensure koalas and their habitats are protected. AKF also makes efforts to reestablish lost habitat which helps reverse the situation koalas are dealing with. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is another organization that helps endangered animals as well helping the worlds oceans, freshwater, climates, and forests. These are other categories Koala Korner finds important and want to help.

How to mint Koalas?

Koala Korner will be based on the Solana blockchain, meaning in order to mint Koalas you must buy Solana and use a Solana wallet such as Phantom or Sollet.

Why Solana?

Most NFT’s traded are formatted around and use the cryptocurrency Ethereum. Ethereum has its pros and cons and one of its major cons for the NFT buyer is gas fees, something Solana doesn’t have. Gas fees cause an unfair and expensive minting process for buyers which can make purchasing a NFT a shot in the dark sometimes. Using Solana for NFT releases improves the chances for buyers that are prepared to purchase at the release time to purchase their NFT and not worry about paying outrageous prices for a single mint.
